Diana Photo Wall

A few months before the baby was born I bought my husband a Diana mini camera. If you haven’t heard about them, or seen on before, they are pretty cool. You can read more info about them on the Lomography site.

He has taken hundreds of photos (72 1/2 frames fit on one role of film) and just recently he started going through them and vetting out the best ones. What used to be a photo gallery frame wall (of course I didn’t take any before pics, sigh) is now our ever rotating Diana photo wall. Dom painted a nice thick border to keep the wall from becoming an unruly mess of photos and he used these photo clips to align and hang everything. Here are the results:

Pocket – My New Best (App) Friend!

I am an app maniac. I admit it. I will download any and every app – as long as it’s under $2-3 (or better yet – free!). One of my newest obsessions is Pocket. I am online everyday, for HOURS at a time, and I come across so many cool sites and projects I want to save for later. Up until now I have been emailing myself a link. Well, now I have like, 8 million emails I have sent myself and I can never find what I want. Well, along comes Pocket to the rescue! I can save links, videos and articles for reading and viewing later into Pocket via my computer, iPhone or iPad. Now I have a visually clean way of seeing and organizing everything I want to read later! Yay!

Picture, Picture

A few weeks ago I ran into a post on Modern Kiddo about taking a vintage photo and rephotographing it in it’s original setting. I thought, how awesome is that! The photos they featured were inspiring. I was headed down to my childhood home for one last visit with my family before the baby comes and since my grandma has lived in her house for 30+ years I thought, I am sure I can find some photos to try out! So here are my results:

Me in the Kiddy Pool in Grandparent's Backyard - I really wish this one had turned out clearer!

It was actually hard to get the little point & shoot I have to get the depth right and have them come out relatively clear. The last one didn’t quite come out as well as I had hoped. But it was a fun project to try out!

Check out the post over at Modern Kiddo for some great picture in picture pictures!

Smart Phone Pregnancy & Baby Apps

I remember, not a mere two years ago, when faced with the option to upgrade from my old flip phone to a shiny new iPhone, I thought to myself, “Why do I need a smart phone? I don’t need to be that connected all the time“. Well, fast forward 2 years later and you just try prying my iPhone 4 out of my hands. You might get bit.

When I got my first smart phone (the iPhone 3G) I quickly filled it up with apps (mostly free) to entertain myself with. Since then I have definitely pared it down to what I need (shazam, facebook, the weather channel) and what I like to spend my free time doing (words with friends, plants vs. zombies, tiny wings).

After getting pregnant I quickly sought out some good pregnancy tracking apps. Hey, I need to know what sized fruit my baby is this week – ok!? (FYI – he’s a pineapple this week…)

So here are my top pics for preggo/baby apps – all free (click to view full sized pics):

  1. What to Expect – Pregnancy – yup, this is an app from the people that brought you the really annoying “What to Expect When Your Expecting”. Honestly I use it mostly for the size tracking and the weekly “where are you at” feature. There is also a way to view the forums and get a daily tip (warning – these can be extremely annoying).

  3. Baby Center – My Pregnancy Today – I really like this one for one reason – the “See How Your Baby’s Growing” screen. Fascinating.

  5. Contraction (yup, that’s the name) – now, I haven’t officially had the chance to use this one yet, but from what I can tell it’s a reallllly simple interface to time your contractions once you go into labor. The cool thing is, if you are super diligent about timing each one you can look back and see all your contractions. So you know how many, and how long exactly, it took to get that baby outta your vagina!

  7. What To Expect Baby Tracker – no this isn’t a microchip for your baby’s brain. It’s yet another app from the “What To Expect” people and it helps track things like feedings, nap times and diaper changes. Again, haven’t had a chance to use this one either, but from what actual parents tell me you should really be keeping track of these things.

So there you have it! Do you guys have any fav apps that you have used in pregnancy or child-rearing?
